| Gatdula may dissolve NBi units with unnecessary functions
By Angelie Escandor
National Bureau of investigation
(NBI) Director
Magtanggol Gatdula said
on thursday he would level
the playing field in the bureau
with his move to dissolve
certain units with
redundant functions and
reassign some of the affected
personnel as regional
and assistant regional directors
in 17 regional of-
fices across the nation.
The new NBi chief said
there are some regional of-
fices at present which are
run only by assistant regional
directors (aRDs) or head
agents.
“So we have to assign
regional directors to the 17
regions. There should be
17 regional directors and 17
ARDs,” he said.
In deploying RDs and
aRDs to the regions, Gatdula
said he want to level
the playing field of the
agents.
“It is unfair to those who
have been working hard.
You need to go through this,
managing a region, while being
promoted,” he added.
Gatdula also guarantees
improved services in the
NBI regional offices.
Earlier, Gatdula said he
was studying the possibility
of dissolving some of the
NBi units due to redundancy
of functions. He noted that
some units are performing
the same functions which
amount to duplication of
work.
However, Gatdula assured
that the NBI’s bigger
units or divisions functioning
well will be retained.
He also said the NBI will
create other units which are
needed, such as a death investigation
division, to handle
cases involving the killing
of members of the media
and militant groups.
